As the Player[]
After moving from his home in Johto to the town of Littleroot in Hoenn, Brendan meets his friend & rival May. Soon after, he finds Professor Birch, who's being attacked by a wild Pokémon. Brendan uses one of Birch's Pokémon to defeat the wild Pokémon, and Birch rewards him with the Pokémon he chose. After this, he goes on his Pokémon adventure, collects all 8 Hoenn gym badges, stops Team Magma/Aqua, defeats Groudon/Kyogre, & beats the Hoenn Pokémon League.
As the Rival[]
Brendan is the son of Professor Birch, he lived in the town of Littleroot before starting his Pokémon journey. He's helping his dad complete the Hoenn Pokédex and working to become a professor himself. He serves as the player's friend & rival throughout the game, & challenges them several times throughout their journey.
