Shang Tsung is a character from NetherRealm Studios' video game series, Mortal Kombat. He previously fought Akuma in the 2nd episode of DEATH BATTLE!, Akuma VS Shang Tsung. He also fought Fei Long in an episode of One Minute Melee.

History[]

Recognized as one of the most malicious villains of Mortal Kombat history, Shang Tsung is infamous for his forte of deceit, trickery and inhumanity. A long time ago, when he was caught cheating in the tournament, the Elder Gods punished him with a curse that ages him too rapidly. To prevent this, Shang Tsung was given the ability to absorb souls in order to sustain his youth, eventually turning his curse as the most deadliest weapon in his repertoire. Vilified for his evil being greater than that of Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung has spent hundreds of years tricking people into forfeiting his souls, but has served under the iron fist of Shao Kahn, having served as his second in command. Under his reign, he has also served as his chief scientist, conducting inhumane experiments such as using Kotal as his lab rat, created Mileena as an heir apparent to Shao Kahn's throne, and recruited Kano and his Black Dragons gang as an associate for Outworld's empire.

But he is widely distrusted by even the emperors he serves under, for his hunger for power always overshadows his loyalty. He teamed up with Quan Chi to overthrow Shao Kahn (which was apparently revealed to be a clone), kill Liu Kang (with Quan Chi's help) to prevent his interference to his plans, and created an army of ancient soldiers once loyal to Onaga with the souls of the deceased, in the hopes of conquering the realms. Eventually, this ultimately resulted in failure due to Raiden and his coven of heroes stopping him, foiling his plans and splintering his alliance with Quan Chi.

At one time, he was forced into submission by Kronika into creating a Crown for her, one capable of going up against Elder Gods such as Raiden and Fujin, but he refused to join her, so Kronika banished him to the Void. He returned alongside Nightwolf and Fujin, both of whom had also refused to join Kronika and convinced Liu Kang to send them back to the timeline where Kronika was close into claiming the Crown (by Cetrion), but the trio has to claim the Crown first before Kronika in order to rewrite history when Liu Kang (even at his godhood) could not do so despite in control of the Hourglass. Although Fujin, Nightwolf and Raiden were quick to distrust the sorcerer because of his evil, they eventually agreed to join along with him because of his knowledge of Kronika being greater than even the Elder Gods combined.
