Herbert West (also known as The Re-Animator) is the main villain protagonist of H.P. Lovecraft's Re-Animator and its subsequent adaptations.

History[]
Dr. Herbert West's past is mainly unknown save for the fact that at some point, he discovered a formula he called his Re-Agent. This formula could revive the dead but only as mindless destructive creatures. In the original Lovecraft story, West was killed by his own creations. However, in the film adaptation and subsequent comics that followed, West survived multiple supposed deaths. In the tie-in comics linked to the film, it was revealed that at some point, West's own blood was tainted by foul magic which kept resurrecting him no matter how many times he died.
