Superman vs Godzilla is a What-If? episode of Death Battle.

DC vs Toho! Which of these powerful characters is the deadliest? Sure to be the ultimate Death Battle episode of all time!

Wiz: Now this should be interesting for our fans.

Boomstick: I hope this will be the best battle ever!

Wiz: On a previous Death battle, we pitted Superman , the Man of Steel, against Goku the tenacious Super Saiyan against each other twice and both times Superman turned out to be victorious...

Boomstick: ...and so did Godzilla , the King of Monsters, when we pitted him against Gamera, Guardian of the Universe, though that is just once.

Wiz: But which of these 2 is the ultimate champion? To find out our answer, we bring these two champions back to be pitted against each other.

Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.

Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and, skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.

Wiz: Kal-El was born from the dying planet Krypton, but was then sent to Earth.

Boomstick: And he landed in the farm of some country folks, then is renamed by his earth family as Clark Kent. But then, he eventually became the famous superhero that we all know and love...Superman.

Wiz: Now we know that Superman is at his powerful when he gets his energy from the sun, so it is basically a healing factor.

Boomstick: Supes also has his super sense like his X-Ray vision, which can enable him to see everything but lead. Plus, he can super hear things from far away, and has super sites to see small objects closer or see objects from far away. Not to mention he still has his Super Strength, Super Speed, Flight, 2 different super breaths, and even has laser eyes to melt and or burn shit with.

Wiz: But there is a catch, the more he uses his laser beam eyes, the more his solar energy gets used up. Also, not only is he super strong, he is also super smart, because he has a super brain, he has a perfect photographic memory and he can read and memorize DNA, and if that's not enough, he is also quite the tactician and is a technological genius.

Boomstick: Supes also has a certain number of martial arts known in his skills, such as pressure points with...The BATMAN! He also knows Hand-to-Hand with Wonder-babe as well, and even Boxing with Wildcat.

Wiz: And even though he looks invincible, his weaknesses are well known since his last time on Death Battle.

Boomstick: We all know that Superman gets damaging effects from Kryptonite.

Wiz: That glowing green stone simply drains Superman's powers, but when the Kryptonite is removed, you think he just gets his powers back, huh? Sorry, but he gets his powers mainly from the sun.

Boomstick: But it won't matter, Superman has accomplished so much, let's see if he has that chance with the King of Monsters himself?

Superman: This looks like a job for Superman.

Wiz: Godzilla was once one of the dinosaurs who laid dormant at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

Boomstick: But until the year 1954, we dumb Americans tested our hydrogen bombs there, but the process was a disaster in which it both awakened and mutated him, turning him into the unpredictable giant monster we all know and love today, as...Godzilla!

Wiz: He stands at 355 ft. and weights up to 90,000 tons; but he does feed on radiation to get his powers and all, and surprisingly he is quite the master of Judo and Boxing.

Boomstick: He uses his powers to fight armies and rival giant monsters on occasion, like his two different atomic breaths, regular and spiral style; he also has the Nuclear Pulse, a short range attack made of nuclear energy emitted from his sharp dorsal plated body.

Wiz: Don't forget, he has godly strength, can breathe underwater, has uncanny durability, and despite being weak to electricity, he has magnetic powers to attract certain types of metal including Steel.

Boomstick: Speaking of Weaknesses, Big G can be attack in the gills to stun his breathing, he is also slow, and can be quite clumsy due to his size. But let's not forget his accomplishments like winning his 44 out of 60 of his monster matches; 45 out of 61 if one were to count his last match with his rival Gamera.

Wiz: He's also survived and escaped a Black Hole, Matched the Strength of Thor, spent half a day battling Rodan, Survived the Absolute Zero Cannon, lifted and threw his rival Kaizer Ghidorah, and defeated 10 Monsters in a row in the Final Wars.

Boomstick: Godzilla may have what it takes to win against the Man of Steel.

Godzilla roars.

Wiz: All right, the combatants are set, let's end the debate once and for all.

Boomstick: It's time for a Death Battle!

Superman flies about double checking to see if there are no crimes going on. Then, the weather gets cloudy.

Superman: Hmm, a good chance that rain can happen. I better check real quick before...

Superman is then interrupted by a strange roar he can hear with his super hearing, he uses his telescopic vision to find the source of the roar, which is revealed to be Godzilla coming out of the water and attacking many armies that try to stop him.

Superman: Looks like I might have to put this monster down big time.

He then flies over and confronts Godzilla.

Superman: Look here, big fella, either you take the easy way in which you leave the lives of innocent people alone and go back to where you came from, or we can do this the hard way.

Godzilla then roars directly in Superman's face.

Superman: So you want to do this the hard way, huh? Fine by me, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Superman tries to use his arctic breath to cool off Godzilla, but Godzilla counters it with his Nuclear Pulse.

Superman: Hmm, guess you don't like things cold, well how about this?

Superman flies about using his martial arts and a few laserbeam eye attacks, he was able to disable Godzilla's joints and tries to go for the gills, but Godzilla whacks Superman away from them, recovering fast, Godzilla picks up the Lexcorp building and throws it at Superman and got a direct hit. As the soot and ashes clear off, Superman appears to be standing straight.

Superman: That guy looks tougher than I thought.

But then Superman notices a green glow, coming from behind him, it was kryptonite.

Superman: What?! Oh, Not now! Not when I have this big reptile to take care of.

As Superman gets weaker, Godzilla approaches. Fortunately for Superman, Godzilla ate the kryptonite; Unfortunately for Superman though, Godzilla became much stronger than before.

Superman: Oh, great; I don't know whether to thank the monster or not, I better take care of him quick.

Superman then flies to Godzilla, lifting him by the tail and they reach into space, while Godzilla roars in pain.

Superman Sorry to do this to you big guy, but this is where you stop!

Superman then heads back to earth as fast as he can, and throws Godzilla into the ocean.

Superman: (gasping) Good...Riddance.

But just then Godzilla pops out of the water and roars in anger.

Superman: What?! He survived that? Oh yeah, I forgot, my power was drained since the kryptonite incident. Must fly to the sun.'

Superman tries to retreat to the sun to get its energy, but then he notices something; even though he is flying about, he is stuck because it is revealed that Godzilla is using his magnetic powers to attract Superman to the beast.

Superman: I know I was always called 'The Man of Steel", but this is ridiculous!

As he said the last word, he ran out of energy and was attracted to Godzilla's grip, and then Godzilla puts Superman in his mouth and chews on him with drips of Superman's blood coming out of Godzilla's Mouth. After Godzilla swallows Superman, he lets out a roar of victory, and resumes his destruction on the city.

Boomstick: Wow, That has got to be one of the most epic Death Battles we made! Of Course, I can understand how a Fruit Gusher can feel if Big G ate me.

Wiz: Right, Even though Superman bested Godzilla in Strength and Speed, Godzilla has best Superman on Durability and has a much faster healing factor than Superman, and the Kryptonite has surprisingly made Godzilla stronger.

Boomstick: So then it was like opposite for Big G compared to Supes.

Wiz: Right, as Kryptonite has some certain radiation power and Godzilla does feed on radiation.

Boomstick: But how did Godzilla manage to get Superman with Magnetic powers, despite Superman being a Krytonian?

Wiz: The Same reason why regular shot bullets didn't affect Superman, cause he is the Man of Steel, plus, don't forget that Godzilla is a survivor like we mentioned with the black hole and the Absolute Zero Cannon.

Boomstick: Oh, Okay, well in the end however, the King of Monsters has demoted the Man of Steel to the "Man of Snacks".

Wiz: The Winner is Godzilla.

  • This is Maxevil's eighteenth Death Battle episode.

Since both characters are over 50 years old and have multiple canons; I need to simplify things.

Since Godzilla originates from movies; I will ONLY analyze movie canon. I don't want to be accused of lowballing or using a wimpy version of him. So I will consider Godzilla's physique and powers to be the best of all the Godzillas combined into one. At the same time; I will not consider one-time transformations like Burning Godzilla or Super Godzilla. Also I will not classify Godzilla as an immortal ghost; while GMKG-GMAOA implied this, there was nothing to confirm it.

Since Superman originates from comics; I will ONLY analyze Superman by his comics. I will analyze Superman in general, including pre-crisis, but I will be ignoring outliers or one time abilities; no sneezing a galaxy, no shapeshifting, no rainbow beams and no mini-Supermen from his hands. The reason I'm doing this is because, as Death Battle pointed out, the magnitude of Superman's physique was not changed; he was 'nerfed' by removing the outlier powers. In some ways; Superman had a few buffs from post-crisis, like getting new abilities including the Super Flare; so saying 'oh Superman won because you're using pre-crisis' isn't a valid argument.

Finally; Superman will not be given an Oxygen Destroyer and Godzilla will not be given Kryptonite. This goes for all other weaknesses. Also to not reenact Kirby vs Buu; Superman will not simply throw Godzilla into the sun/black hole.

The city of Metropolis… IS UNDER ATTACK!

Godzilla rises from the ocean and quickly starts attacking skyscrapers, burning neighborhoods, destroying tanks.

Godzilla is at Metropolis and is about to stomp on a cat stuck in a tree. The foot crushes the tree, but as it is lifted up, the cat is gone: for SUPERMAN HAS SAVED IT!

Superman: No creature is too small for me to save.

As he feeds the kitten with a glass of milk; smiling with a perfectly white grin.

Meanwhile Godzilla is doing a suplex to LexCorp Tower.

Godzilla lets out a mighty roar; only to see Superman standing on his nose.

Superman: I can do better!

Superman uses his Super-Breath to blow Godzilla into a nearby building. Godzilla quickly gets up and is enraged.

Godzilla raises his claws and swipes at Superman twice; but Supes just crosses his arms to show that he was unphased.

Godzilla chomps onto Superman; but Supes pushes his mouth open.

Godzilla begins to charge his Atomic Breath. Superman sees the glow from down his throat. So Superman flies out of his mouth and immediately clams Godzilla’s mouth shut. However the Atomic Ray explodes within Godzilla; becoming the Nuclear Pulse.

The blast hits Superman. The radiation does some harm to Supes, but his healing factor repairs the damage instantly and he gets back up as he absorbs sunlight.

Godzilla sees the Daily Planet and fires his Atomic Ray at it. Superman stands in front of the building and tries to block it. The radiation of the ray begins to burn through his solar aura, and his suit and skin begin to burn. However Superman begins to fly into the ray.

Punch punch punch punch punch!

After one more mighty blow, the ray is destroyed.

Godzilla swings his tail around to whip at Superman. But Supes catches the tail and spins around and around; spinning Godzilla like a fan-blade. He throws the kaiju into orbit, flies into orbit, and punches him back into the earth: with Godzilla landing into a desert.

Godzilla gets up again and charges at Superman. Superman easily dodges. Godzilla bites, swipes and punches but misses every attempt.

But while he does this, he charges his Red Spiral Ray. He blasts Superman at point blank and Supes falls onto the sand hard. Godzilla goes up to him and crushes him under his feat.

But Superman punches Godzilla’s foot so hard that it sends him airborne for 3 seconds. Supes then flies around the world multiple times. As Godzilla gets up he sees the faint trails of Supes flying past him. He tries to hit them, but like before he can’t do anything.

Now traveling faster than light; Superman strikes Godzilla strait in the eye, piercing his skull and destroying his brain. Godzilla falls down with Superman the victor (and in kaiju guts).

Godzilla and Superman are both very iconic characters; known for their power and nigh invincibility. However while having them fight sounds like an entertaining fight; the fact remains that Superman dominates this battle due to the superior magnitude of his abilities.

The biggest issue Godzilla has no answer for is speed. Godzilla is known for being a lumbering giant; he is a tank even compared to other kaiju. The most agile characters Godzilla have faced (like Megaguirus and Rodan) are at best about hypersonic in their speed. Yet Superman has been confirmed to fly faster than light on multiple occasions, and has both raced and ‘tagged’ the Flash on multiple occasions: confirming that Superman is on par with him in speed. Even if we severely lowball Superman; the fact remains that Godzilla is so relatively massive and slow that he has no chance of dodging any of Superman’s attacks; if Godzilla can even react at all.

Strength is another trait that both of these characters are well known for. Godzilla has proven to be able to KO other kaiju with just a few blows and has thrown kaiju much larger than himself. One of these feats include throwing Kumonga (30,000 ton kaiju spider) over the horizon (which is about 12 miles away). As impressive as it is throwing a kaiju across the Earth; Superman is strong enough move the Earth ITSELF. While it is difficult to confirm the limits of both characters in terms of strength; the magnitude of strength is clearly different. If Godzilla tried to attack California again; Superman could literally lift California away. Godzilla can destroy buildings, but no film has depicted him this strong.

Both of these characters are considered indestructible; but this word has been quite overused, even for characters that technically are not indestructible. Godzilla is able to survive nuclear blasts at point blank range; while The Dark Knight Rises depicts Superman as being almost killed in such a blast. However it should be noted that Superman is weak to nuclear radiation. This is part of the reason Atomic Skull, Nuclearman from Superman IV (best movie ever) and kryptonite can harm Superman. It should also be noted that Superman’s weaknesses and limits are rather inconsistent. In the Justice League episode The Doomsday Sanction; this nuclear missile has a kryptonite warhead, as Cadmus saw it necessary for they concluded that Superman could survive the blast.

But since I mentioned I would analyze Superman by the comics; I will show the comic examples are even more concrete to my argument. Red Son Superman survived a point-blank explosion of ‘6 miniature black holes’ with a ’15 million mile blast-radius’. Superman has also survived supernovas or attacks on par with supernovas on multiple occasions. Burning Godzilla meanwhile died when he self-destructed; an explosion that had the potential of destroying Earth (if the military’s freezing weapons didn’t cool it down). Godzilla has also been harmed by Gigan’s blades, Hedorah’s poison and from basic attacks from other kaiju; none of which can destroy a solar system like a supernova can.

Now the fact that Godzilla uses radioactive attacks arguably means that he can harm Superman. But with Superman’s aforementioned speed advantage; it would be difficult to even hit him to begin with. It’s also safe to say that Godzilla doesn’t have the strength to harm Superman enough to guarantee him a victory.

I honestly do not see how Godzilla could win this battle. Superman has too many advantages; every trait about Superman overshadows Godzilla. There is nothing stopping Superman from throwing Godzilla into deep space, or into the phantom zone, or just One-Punch-Man-ing him with an Infinite Mass Punch. I don’t see Godzilla producing enough radiation to harm Superman, or Godzilla finding any way to counter Superman’s speed advantage: which could end the fight in less than 1 second. Godzilla was designed to be an unstoppable threat to mankind. He did quickly evolve into being designed for kaiju-fighting; but with so many kaiju being giant mutant dinosaurs, Godzilla was constantly facing threats that confirmed his mortality. Godzilla fought conventionally, primarily against opponents that had some slight advantage like superior size (Ghidorah / Biollante), numbers (Kamacuras), speed (Rodan / Megaguirus), durability (Mechagodzilla 2), ect… Yet the majority of the time, it was a fair fight with either monster getting a chance to win. Superman meanwhile rarely faces a physically superior opponent; since being SUPERman literally means being SUPERior. If you look at Superman’s rouges gallery; almost none of them are conventional. He has multiple evil clones (Zod, Bizzaro, Cyborg Superman), kryptonite users (Warsuit Lex, Metallo, KRYPTONITE MAN), and just strait up overpowered abilities that anyone would be screwed over by; like reality warping (Mxypitalik), adaptation (Doomsday) and power-stealing (Parasite). At least with Space Godzilla; his crystals are weakspots and Godzilla had MOGERA as an ally. At least with Destroyah; he’s not as powerful as the Oxygen Destroyer itself (that would make that duel end much faster if that was the case) and Godzilla was in ‘Burning Mode’. At least with Megaguirus, she doesn’t turn Godzilla into a floppy potato after draining him, it’s not as broken.

Godzilla faces physical challenges. Superman faces gimmicks. Godzilla can be overpowered. Superman IS overpowered.

Side Notes

We actually have seen Superman defeat Kaiju multiple times. The short Artic Giant potentially influenced the creation of Godzilla. Even then; Superman dominated the kaiju in terms of strength. I'm not saying this Kaiju is exactly the same as Godzilla; but it is noteworthy that Superman had no difficulty fighting monsters like this (unless Lois Lane is there to be completely braindead). [1]

I will also mention this; I don’t plan to make a Superman vs Hulk match, but I do see a similar outcome. Hulk has infinite strength, and World Breaker appears to be able to emit radiation much better than Godzilla: so a Superman vs Hulk fight might be very close. However Superman’s superior durability, intelligence and speed appears to lead to a similar outcome to what happened here; just in my opinion.

Batman vs Godzilla

Batman stands on a building and faces Godzilla eye to eye.

Batman: I have researched your history, and I have the one thing you fear; me, and my Bat-Oxygen-Destroyer. Flash arrives. Flash: Batman, you’re drunk, lets get you home. Supes can handle this. Batman: But I can still punch him right? Flash: …No. Batman: My plot-armor will get you next time Killer Croc. Flash: That’s NOT Croc. Come on, lets get you home. Alfred can buy you a pony or something. Batman: A Bat-Pony? Flash: …Sure.

Who would you be rooting for?
