The Wicked Witch of the West is the main villain in L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. She has since appeared in numerous books, movies, and most recently the television show, Emerald City. She has been known by many names, including Momba, Mombi, Bastinda, Smarmy, Evillene, Elphaba Thropp, Old Snarl-Spats, Azkadellia, Billie Westbrook, Theodora, Zelena, and simply West.

History
The canonical origins of the Wicked Witch of the West are heavily disputed. For example, in Oz: The Great and Powerful, she was a monk who briefly fell in love with the Wizard and was fooled into eating a cursed apple to cure her heartbreak by the Witch of the East. Whereas in Wicked, she never encounters Oz directly.
